Tampere United beat RoPS Rovaniemi 4-0 in the Ykkönen Group Stage on Friday evening. The hosts made no mistake against the second-placed visitors, opening a four-point gap at the top of the table. It was a clean sheet performance and three points that feel earned.
J. Huhtala broke the deadlock in the twelfth minute before J. Enbuska arrived to double the lead. By then RoPS were already chasing the game, and Enbuska added a second goal in the twenty-first when the visitors had not yet settled. N. Hasa made it four in the forty-eighth minute after the break.
And here's the thing about the red card — D. Berry was sent off in the twenty-seventh minute, which changed everything. RoPS went for the jugular with ten men but had no real outlet, and the pressure told on their goalkeeper. They managed just one shot on target all match.
To be fair, the statistics do not lie. Tampere United had 66 per cent possession, 97 attacks and eight shots on target compared to RoPS's single effort on goal. The visitors had one corner to eleven, which tells you who was in control of the tie from that point on.
By then the gap at the top is four points, with Tampere holding 44 from 22 games and RoPS on 40. The hosts have not lost since July and now sit comfortably in first place. RoPS will need to regroup — they were reduced to ten men and could not recover from it.
