Bortagaray strikes late to hand Puerto Cabello victory
Puerto Cabello edged Sapora 1:0 in the third round of the Clausura on Saturday evening. The away side took all three points from the Venezuelan fixture, extending their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Spora dominated possession without creating much of a threat, while the visitors looked sharper in transition. The hosts had three shots on target but could not find the net. To be fair, Puerto Cabello made the most of their opportunities.
And here's the thing — the decisive moment arrived in the 75th minute when G. Bortagaray scored. Sapora had been uncomfortable since then, unable to respond after the breakthrough. The goal came after a period of sustained pressure from the visitors.
The statistics tell a clear story. Puerto Cabello created three big chances compared to none for Sapora, and their key passes totalled nine against just two. The visitors registered five shots on target while their hosts managed three. Shots accuracy favoured Sapora at 75 percent, but the effort went unrewarded.
The result leaves Sapora in 10th place with 25 points from 21 games. Puerto Cabello moved up to fifth with 32 points, five ahead of their opponents. The away side had lost their previous visit to the league but bounced back with this win.
