The football team that carries the region's temper into the top flight was assembled out of a wreck. The old Club Atlético Zamora went bankrupt in 1999, and the name lay unused until a new club was registered on 21 August 2002 and sent to the second division. Promotion to the Primera División came in 2006.

The first league title arrived in 2012–13, the second the following season, and by 2018 there were five. The 2019 Venezuelan Cup was added to it.

Both sides hold the bulk of the championships between them and keep meeting in finals, and the history between them adds an edge that no other match in Venezuela carries.

Home is the Agustín Tovar, known in Barinas simply as La Carolina, with room for 24,396. The white and black of the shirts gave the club the name it is called by, El Blanquinegro, though on the plains the older idea sticks better: La Furia Llanera.

The last title was 2018 and the last trophy the cup a year later. The task now is to get back among the sides deciding the championship rather than watching Táchira do it.
