Alex Roberto Santana Rafael

Alex Roberto Santana Rafael picked up the nickname that has followed him ever since as a boy at Prudentópolis: "Muralha", the wall. He turned professional with Olé Brasil in 2009 and spent his early years with smaller Brazilian sides — Votoraty, then three seasons at Comercial, interrupted by a brief loan to Cuiabá that brought him a first winner's medal in the Campeonato Mato-Grossense. A move to Figueirense in 2014 gave him his first extended run as a goalkeeper, and he won the Campeonato Catarinense the following year.

In December 2015 the Rio club Flamengo acquired the majority of his economic rights. He stayed on Flamengo's books until late 2020, though loan spells in Japan with Albirex Niigata and in Brazil with Coritiba meant he was not first-choice in Rio. Even so, he was part of a Flamengo squad that won the Campeonato Carioca in 2017 and the Copa Sudamericana in 2019, having also finished runner-up in both the Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana in 2017.

Coritiba became his permanent home in 2021, and he added the Campeonato Paranaense to his collection in 2022. A loan to Mirassol in 2023 preceded a permanent move there in January 2024, bringing him back to a club he had already represented briefly a decade earlier.
