Kerr McInroy spent a decade on Celtic's books, a spell that ended in 2022 when he was released as a free agent after a string of loans away from Parkhead. Those loans told their own story: at Airdrieonians he scored 4 goals in 11 League One appearances, and on his return to senior football with Kilmarnock he was farmed out again, this time to Partick Thistle, where a productive 2023–24 season yielded 5 goals in 32 Championship league starts among 39 appearances in all competitions.

Released by Kilmarnock when his contract expired in May 2024, the Glasgow-born midfielder crossed to Ireland the following January, signing for Shelbourne on a deal that ran to November 2026 and was later extended. The move worked out quickly: McInroy made 34 appearances and scored 4 goals across all competitions in 2025, form that earned him the club's Player of the Year award for the season, even as Shelbourne slipped to third in the League of Ireland Premier Division after entering the year as champions. He has continued as a regular fixture in 2026, with 18 league starts and a further 10 European appearances by mid-year.

McInroy's representative career has stayed at youth level for Scotland — 8 caps for the U17s, 16 caps and a goal for the U19s, and a single U21 appearance — without a senior call-up to date.
