About the player
Argentine by birth, Lucas Romero's career has run in a loop back to where it took off. He helped the club to the Torneo Inicial and Superfinal in his first full seasons and to a Supercopa Argentina in 2013.
Cruzeiro brought him back in January 2024, and the reunion has paid off: in 2025 he was named the Bola de Prata's best defensive midfielder and included in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year, the first Argentine to take the defensive midfield award since Pablo Guiñazú in 2009.
He added another Campeonato Mineiro medal in March 2026, starting in the final as Cruzeiro beat Atlético Mineiro 1–0. The match did not end quietly — Romero was involved in a brawl that broke out after the final whistle.
At international level he represented Argentina's under-20 side in 2013 and was part of the under-23 squad at the Rio Olympics in 2016, though a senior call-up has not followed.
