About the player
Luciano Castán da Silva has spent most of his career on the move, before a free transfer took him elsewhere. Born in Jaú, the left-footed centre-back began at União São João before a string of loans — Santos, Ponte Preta, Paraná and Red Bull Bragantino — though his spell at Santos did earn him a Campeonato Paulista winner's medal. A move to São Bernardo brought a Copa Paulista title, and from there Portuguesa took him on loan before he left Brazil altogether for Stade Brestois in France in 2016, making 32 appearances over the following season.
After a spell with Al-Khor in Qatar, Castán returned to Brazilian football with CSA, where he won the Campeonato Alagoano in 2019. He later added a Campeonato Paranaense title with Coritiba in 2022. His transfer to Cruzeiro in 2023 stands out for being one of the few moves in his career to involve an actual fee. Sport Recife followed in 2024 before he joined Criciúma on a free transfer, signing through the end of 2026 and taking the number 4 shirt.
Castán's start at Criciúma was complicated by a Grade 3 muscle injury in his left thigh. He recovered from it to establish himself as a key starter for the club.
