About the player
The signature moment of Diego Gonçalves 's career came in 2021, on loan at Botafogo-RJ: he scored the decisive goal in the final against Brasil de Pelotas that sealed the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B title. He went on to make 52 appearances and 12 goals in total during his spell there.
After starting out in the youth ranks at Ponte Preta and Fluminense, Gonçalves moved to Portugal with Olhanense and Atlético Clube de Portugal before returning to Brazil with Portuguesa. From Louletano he was loaned again, first to Botafogo-SP, then to Figueirense.
Mirassol bought his rights in 2021 and immediately sent him out again, first for the Botafogo spell, then to Goiás in 2023, where he won the Copa Verde, and to Juventude in 2024. In February 2025, Criciúma took him initially on loan before converting the deal into a permanent contract, since renewed for the 2026 season.
He has not been capped by Brazil at any level, and is a different player from the younger Diego Gonçalves da Silva who has come through at Corinthians.
