About the player

In 2018, Manuel Castro finished as top scorer of Uruguay's pre-season Torneo Intermedio, the Copa Coca-Cola, with four goals.

Castro came through Montevideo Wanderers and made his first-team debut there in 2014. Five years in Uruguay brought 87 matches and 17 goals, enough for Estudiantes de La Plata to sign him in January 2019. He made roughly 63 appearances in Argentina and scored nine times. He was not in the squad when Estudiantes lost the 2020/21 Copa Argentina final to River Plate.

February 2020 took him to MLS, on a six-month loan to Atlanta United with an option to extend. The option was taken up, but the arrangement ended when the season did.

He joined FC Juárez in Mexico as a free agent in 2023 and played 16 matches, scoring twice. In January 2024 he suffered a knee injury that required a long recovery. He returned to Uruguay in 2025 with Liverpool Montevideo, where he again played 16 matches, this time with one goal.

The move to Brazil was announced on 7 January 2026: a free transfer to Juventude on a contract running to the end of the year. By then he had come through the knee problem and was fit. He has since made more than 20 appearances for the club.

Castro, who was born in Durazno, has not been called up to the senior Uruguay squad and has no caps.
