About the player
Mario Contra came through the youth ranks at ACS Poli Timișoara, the club from his home city, joining in 2016 before a loan spell at Ripensia Timișoara in 2018 took him away for a season. He returned to Timișoara football with ACS Știința Poli Timișoara before his move away from the region to Botoșani in 2020, where he spent two seasons.
Since then the goalkeeper has moved between clubs on free transfers rather than fees, spells at Unirea Slobozia and CSM Reșița each lasting around a year before he signed for Chindia Târgoviște in February 2024. He has been described as a consistent presence there.
Contra's only honour at senior level came early: he finished runner-up in the Cupa Ligii with ACS Poli Timișoara in the 2016–17 season. At youth level, he was called up to Romania's under-16 side for the "Costin Laurean" memorial tournament in Târgu Mureș, though he has not featured for the senior national team.
