About the player
Ciobanu came through the Gheorghe Hagi Academy at Viitorul Constanța, breaking into the first team in 2016 and going on to make 110 appearances and score 16 goals for the club. He was part of the squad that won the 2016–17 Liga I title, the first top-flight championship for a club founded in the post-communist era, and he later added a Cupa României in 2019 and a Supercupa României in 2020 with the same side.
In June 2022 he moved to Rapid București for a fee of €100,000. His time there was interrupted by loan spells: a season at Politehnica Iași in 2023–2024, where he made 11 appearances, and a stint at FC Voluntari from January 2024, where he added nine more. He returned to Farul Constanța, as Viitorul had been renamed, in July 2024 and made 23 appearances before joining Oțelul Galați on a free transfer in June 2025, signing a contract to 2027. He has since made 41 appearances and scored four goals for Oțelul.
Ciobanu has represented Romania at every youth level from U17 to U23, totalling six caps for the U17 side, three for the U19s, and 22 appearances with four goals for the U21s. He was also part of the U23 squad that took part in the 2020 Summer Olympics, making seven appearances at that level.
