Mirel Rădoi took charge in 2023. The club had needed only three years from entering the league system to reach the top flight, promoted as runners-up in the 2021–22 UAE Division 1 season, and marked its arrival in 2022–23 with a 2–1 win over Al Wahda the following season. A 13th-place finish in 2024–25 sent them back down to the First Division.

The club carries the patronage of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and only fielded a senior football team from 2019, having spent its first years after founding in 2013 on table tennis and athletics before football became the focus. Nouha Dicko, once of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Gabon's Anatole Abang have both worn the red and black that give the team its nickname, Rojinegros, while the name Al Bataeh itself refers to the shallows and surf of the coastal land the club comes from.

They have gone as far as the round of 16 in the President's Cup without lifting a major trophy, promotion to the Pro League still standing as the club's defining achievement barely a decade after it fielded its first team. Sharjah has no shortage of football clubs to measure itself against, from Al Sharjah to Al Ittihad Kalba, but Al Bataeh's matches are played at the Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium, a ground built for 12,000 and considerably larger than the operation that plays there.
