Athinaikos

Athinaikos returned to the top flight of Greek handball, the A1 Ethniki, after climbing back through the divisions, and head coach Nikos Samaras has already extended his contract through the 2026–27 season.

That rebuild had to start from the third tier. The handball section, founded in 1970 by Stefanos Karalis within the older multisport club Athinaikos A.C., reached its peak in the mid-2000s: the Greek Championship in 2004–05, Cup wins in 1997, 2005 and 2006, and a place in the group stage of the EHF Champions League in 2005–06. The club withdrew from competition the following year because of financial problems, and the section went silent for nine seasons before re-entering handball in 2015–16 through the Beta Ethniki.

The 2005–06 squad is still the reference point for what the club once had at its disposal, with players such as Bene Tamás and Nenad Damjanovic among those who carried it into European competition before the collapse.

They play as the "Lords of Vyronas," a name tied to the Athens suburb that has hosted the club throughout, at the Ergani Indoor Sports Hall, a 1,200-seat venue also known locally as the Dimitris Kaltsas Indoor Hall.
