Atlántico

Rubén García wanted professional football in Puerto Plata before there was a club to play it: he began organising the project in 2014, and Atlántico Fútbol Club took the field for the first time on 8 March 2015, against Club Barcelona Atlético. Jorge Márquez Gómez, a Venezuelan midfielder, scored the goal that opened the club's history that day.

The debut season nearly ended with a trophy — Atlántico reached the final of the first Liga Dominicana de Fútbol tournament and lost it to Atlético Pantoja. Two years later the same opponent stood between the club and its first title, in the final of the third tournament. This time Atlántico won it, 4-3 on penalties after a 5-4 aggregate.

Puerto Plata lies on the Atlantic coast, away from the football strongholds of the interior; the nearest is Santiago de los Caballeros, home of Cibao FC, and matches between the two clubs are known locally as the Clásico del Norte.

Blue and white are the club's colours, worn under the nickname La Máquina Azul, the Blue Machine. In 2023, striker Leonardo Becerra, known as El Matador, finished the season as the league's top scorer, with 13 goals.
