Universidad O&M enter this season having tasted what the top of the Liga Dominicana de Fútbol looks like and finding it hard to let go: runners-up in 2024, and still chasing the trophy they last held in 2020. That campaign, sealed against Delfines del Este under Ronald Batista, remains the reference point whenever the club is asked what it has actually won.

The team grew out of Universidad Dominicana O&M, the institution founded by Rafael Abinader, and for decades stayed a university side before professional football existed in the country in its current form. It stepped into the semi-professional Liga Mayor in 2010, then followed the league itself into full professional status when the LDF launched in 2015 — a debut season that ended, like 2016, in a Copa LDF final lost to Cibao FC, a name that keeps recurring whenever Los Universitarios reach a final.

Off the pitch, the nickname tells its own story: "Los Universitarios" for the campus roots, but also "Los Omeyanos," a wink at the O&M initials that has stuck alongside the more formal name. On it, the blue, gold and white kit — blue body, white sleeves, gold trim — has become familiar at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, shared territory in a city where Atlético Pantoja and Delfines del Este supply the sharper local needle.

The club has started pushing past Dominican borders too, reaching the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield group stage in 2023 and finishing runners-up in the Caribbean Club Championship in 2025 — proof the ambition now reaches beyond the domestic table.
