The ground on the eastern edge of Guayaquil opened on 27 December 1987. Estadio Monumental Isidro Romero Carbo holds 59,283. Locals know it as El Coloso del Salado.
Barcelona won the league in 1985, again in 1987 — the year the ground opened — and then took three more titles inside five seasons. That sequence sits at the centre of a haul of 16 Ecuadorian championships. The first came in 1960; the most recent in 2023.
Three years after moving in, the club reached the final of the Copa Libertadores, the first Ecuadorian side to get that far. It happened again in 1998.
The name has not changed since. The crest still keeps the Catalan bars, alongside the red cross of Saint George and a yellow band reading B.S.C.
