Bath City

Bath built its reputation on Roman ruins long before anyone laid out a football pitch there, and the club that eventually took the city's old name followed an equally interrupted path of its own. Bath AFC took the field in 1889 and lasted barely two years before folding in 1891; it took until 1900, and the drive of William Hyman, for the city to field a side again. The team changed its name twice more, briefly trading as Bath Railway, before settling on Bath City in 1905.

The Romans have worn black and white ever since, and since 2017 they have belonged to their own supporters rather than to any single owner, after the Bath City Supporters' Society took control through the Big Bath City Bid.

The oddest line in the club's record books dates from wartime: the 1943–44 Football League North title makes Bath City the only semi-professional side ever to have won a Football League trophy. Peacetime brought three Southern League championships, in 1959–60, 1977–78 and 2006–07, and a run to the FA Trophy semi-final in 2014–15. Weston-super-Mare provide the sharper rivalry, the Somerset Derby crossing the county rather than just the city; Chippenham Town supply the more local one.

None of that outweighs the Somerset Cup, which Bath City have won 25 times.
