CSM București

Bucharest carries two big handball clubs and an old rivalry that runs through the Derby-ul Bucureștiului, and it was the city council itself that decided, on 19 June 2007, to put a new club into that landscape — CSM București was set up as a municipal programme to bring handball back to the capital's youth. Within a couple of years it had absorbed the ambitions of a struggling neighbour: when Rapid București ran into financial trouble in 2009, eleven of its players and coach Vasile Mărgulescu moved across to CSM, and that squad took the club up to the top flight in 2010.

The real break came in 2014, when Mărgulescu was replaced by the Danish coach Mette Klit. The first national title followed in 2015. Kim Rasmussen took over after that and stayed until 2019, long enough to bring the club its one EHF Champions League title, won in 2016. Domestically the sequence barely broke: eight Liga Națională titles, eight Romanian Cups, seven Super Cups.

One name sits above the rest in that run. Cristina Neagu played for CSM from 2017 to 2025, finished as the club's all-time top scorer in the Champions League with 231 goals, and had her number eight retired when she left. The team plays at the Sala Polivalentă.
