Fredericia HK

Five Danish championships in a row, 1975 through 1979, is the run that still anchors Fredericia HK's name in the record books, even though the club that won them, Fredericia KFUM, no longer exists under that name. Seven Danish Cups came alongside it in the same stretch, the last in 1982, before the trophies stopped and the identity changed.

The merger that created FHK came in 1990, when Fredericia KFUM joined with FFF and continued on the older club's licence, carrying the championship pedigree forward even as the name settled, eventually dropping its "af 1990" tag in 2017. The inherited history did not buy the new club stability: a bankruptcy in 2012 dropped Fredericia HK as far as the fifth tier, the Jyllandsserien, a fall that would have ended most clubs' top-flight ambitions for good.

Instead they climbed back tier by tier, winning the 1st Division in 2018–19 to return to the top flight, and within a few seasons were competing for medals again: bronze in 2023, then silver in 2024. It is the kind of recovery that reads better in hindsight than it must have felt in the Jyllandsserien.

Home matches sit at 2,560 capacity since the Middelfart Sparekasse Arena was expanded in the summer of 2025, when a new stand added 144 seats specifically to meet European handball requirements.

None of it means much in Southern Jutland without Kolding IF across the divide. The rivalry between the two predates FHK itself, rooted in the old Fredericia KFUM years, and it remains the fixture in the region where nobody needs the standings explained to them beforehand.
