SønderjyskE is the name that sharpens attention in Ribe and Esbjerg, a fixture the local press has called a "nervepirrende derby" — a nerve-wracking one.

The club itself came together in 2008, when Ribe Håndboldklub and Sædding Guldager Idrætsforening merged into one side under the name Ribe-Esbjerg HH, known locally as REHH. The club has stayed in the top flight since. Its best league finish came in 2016–17, when a run to the semifinals ended in a lost bronze medal match. The past two seasons have run the other way: in 2024–25 and 2025–26 REHH stayed up only by winning the qualification rounds.

Karl Wallinius, the Swedish international who joined in 2024, plays alongside Alfred Jönsson, named the club's Player of the Year for 2024/25. Earlier squads carried Slovenian international Miha Žvižej and Icelandic international Rúnar Kárason. Sebastian Frandsen came through the club's own academy and was named Denmark's Talent of the Year in 2015.

The club splits its home fixtures between two towns, playing at Blue Water Dokken in Esbjerg and at Ribe Fritidscenter.
