Gamba Osaka's only Asian title arrived in 2008, when the club beat Adelaide United in the final of the AFC Champions League. The Emperor's Cup came Gamba's way five times between 1990 and 2015, the J.League Cup was won in 2007 and 2014, and the Japanese Super Cup followed in 2007 and 2015.
The club has since gone down and come back. A spell in the J2 League ended in 2013, when Brazilian coach José Carlos Serrão took the side to the second-tier title and an immediate return to the top flight.
No one wore the shirt longer than Yasuhito Endo, whose 790 J1 League appearances stand as a division record; he also captained the Japan national team.
Gamba Osaka began in 1980 as Matsushita Electric SC, the works team of the company now known as Panasonic.
