George Telegraph

Kolkata's football calendar runs on three big names, and George Telegraph has spent a century in the shadow of the other two. The club took its name and its start from the telegraph office where Haripada Dutta worked, and in 1925 he put together the side that would carry it.

The closest they came was 1946, when riots broke out during the IFA Shield final and the match was abandoned with no winner declared. That run ended with successive relegations in 2002 and 2003, though the club rebuilt quickly enough to be back in the Premier Division by 2005. A second shot at the Shield came in 2020, when Real Kashmir beat them 2–1 in the final.

Monoranjan Bhattacharya is the name still spoken of at the club, a defender who went on to manage East Bengal. More recently, the Ivorian Kamo Stephane Bayi scored 19 goals in 16 appearances in 2016.
