Hapoel Hadera-Givat Olga go into this season back in Liga Leumit, having dropped out of the top flight at the end of 2024-25 after a run that had lasted since 2018, when the club returned to the Premier League following forty years away.

That return capped a slide that had taken the club almost to the bottom of the pyramid. A match-fixing scandal in 1994 set off a sequence of relegations that left Hadera in the fifth tier by 2003, a fall from a club that had spent much of the 1970s bouncing between divisions in what supporters came to call its "yo-yo" years. Climbing back out took until 2008, when a Liga Bet title started the rebuild that eventually reached the top division a decade later.

The club traces its football back to 1928 within the Hapoel movement proper, with 1936 taken as the founding year, and it did not survive the 1947-49 Palestine war intact — it was disbanded and only reformed after Israeli independence. In 2015 it merged with local side Givat Olga, and the combined club now carries the name of Shulem Schwarz, a winger who played for Hadera and represented Israel at the 1976 Montreal Olympics before his death in 2014.

Home games are played at Netanya Stadium, a groundshare taken up in 2018 after Hadera's own municipal stadium fell into disrepair and was eventually torn down. The Hadera Derby against Givat Olga carries the sharpest edge of any fixture on the calendar, sharper these days than the old rivalry with Maccabi Hadera.

What still eludes the club, across nine decades, is a top-flight title: every one of its championships has come at second-tier level or below, and its best finish in Israel's highest division remains a single sixth-place season.
