Harlequins

South-west London's rugby crowd has never had to choose only one side of the Thames for its loyalties, and the club that grew out of Hampstead Football Club settled the matter for itself early: within a year of forming, half the membership walked out under William Alford to start what became Wasps, and those who stayed renamed themselves Harlequins in 1870. The quartered shirt — chocolate brown, French grey, magenta and light blue — has carried that name ever since, worn now at the Twickenham Stoop, a ground the club took on as an athletics venue in 1963 and has held 14,800 people watching from since.

The Premiership title arrived twice, in 2011–12 and again in 2020–21, either side of which the club also picked up the European Challenge Cup on three occasions. Danny Care has worn the shirt more than anyone else in the club's history, 386 appearances built up over a career, while Nick Evans finished as the club's leading points scorer.

Across the city, the fixture against Saracens has taken on the weight of a London derby in its own right. It sits alongside the older grievance with Wasps, a rivalry that goes back to that first split in 1867.
