«Tigers»
Three local sides in Leicester put their differences aside in 1880 and merged into one club, taking the name Leicester Football Club. The Tigers nickname followed within a few years and has stuck ever since.
The club has never been sent down from the top flight.
Between 1998 and 2003, under Dean Richards as Director of Rugby, Leicester won four Premiership titles in a row and then went back-to-back in Europe, lifting the Heineken Cup in 2001 and 2002. The 2001 season brought all three: league, Europe and the domestic cup, a treble no side at the club has matched since. Martin Johnson captained much of that side before going on to lead England to the World Cup in 2003.
The good times did not last without interruption.
Welford Road, now carrying a sponsor's name, holds 25,849 on a matchday.
