HSG Wetzlar

The Buderus Arena holds around 4,500 for handball, though HSG Wetzlar has had a handful of those too. The club fills it as a merger: the handball sections of TSV Dutenhofen and TV Münchholzhausen came together in 1992, first under the name Handballspielgemeinschaft Dutenhofen/Münchholzhausen, before the club settled on HSG Wetzlar in 2004.

Promotion arrived in 1998, and the club has stayed in the Handball-Bundesliga ever since. The closest it came was sixth place in 2016/17. The DHB-Pokal final appearances tell a similar story of getting there but not through it: in 1997, still a second-division side, Wetzlar lost the final to TBV Lemgo, and in 2001 fell again, this time to THW Kiel. In 1998 the club reached a European final as well, the EHF Cup Winners' Cup, beaten by CB Cantabria Santander.
