SG BBM Bietigheim

The EgeTrans Arena holds 4,583 spectators, 2,983 of them seated, room enough for a men's team that has spent much of the past decade shuttling between Germany's top two divisions — promoted in 2014, 2018, 2024 and 2026, and relegated again as recently as 2025, a year after the previous promotion.

Until 2024 the arena's name carried further than that, on the back of a women's team that turned SG BBM Bietigheim into one of German handball's dominant sides: six Bundesliga titles between 2017 and 2025, four DHB-Pokal wins, the EHF European League in 2022 and, two years later, a Champions League final. Support in Bietigheim itself never grew to match that run, and the team left for Ludwigsburg's MHPArena, continuing there as HB Ludwigsburg.

Hartmut Mayerhoffer took over the men's side in 2026 from Iker Romero, who had coached it since 2023, under club president Steffen Merkle.

The club itself dates to 1997, when TSV Bietigheim and TV Metterzimmern merged into SG Bietigheim-Metterzimmern; ten years later SpVgg Bissingen joined to form the club as it stands today, its nickname, Die Ellentäler, still marking the Enz valley towns that made it.
