What plays there now carries a name older than its current legal identity. A club called Kisvárdai Sport Egyesület formed on 8 November 1911, was rebuilt in 1971 out of a merger of local sports societies, and folded in 2001 when the money ran out. A replacement, Várda SE, rose from the wreckage in 2003, and it took another decade before the town reclaimed its old name — in 2013, the club changed its crest and returned to being Kisvárda, entering the following season as Kisvárda-Master Good FC.

None of that history carries a single name attached to it in the way Kisvárda's story is often told through the town itself.
