Three times a decade apart, in 1972, 1974 and 1989, Liptovský Mikuláš topped the 1st. Slovak National Hockey League. Liga that year, the club bought its licence from ŠHK 37 Piešťany to make the jump, six years after being relegated in 2009–10 with a twelfth-place finish.
The rivalry with HK Poprad carries its own name, the Podtatranské derby, the Under-Tatra derby.
The academy has sent Šimon Nemec through its ranks. Jerguš Bača moved from player to coach at the club, a path also taken by Juraj Kledrowetz, another product of the same academy. Aleš Totter holds the head coach's job now.
It holds 3,680 people, 800 of them seated.
