Llanelli Wanderers

Llanelli Wanderers grew out of the town's post-war years, when a group of ex-servicemen set the club up in 1951, carrying forward a line begun by YMCA RFC, which had turned out for a single season in 1946–47. They ran their affairs from the Prince of Wales Inn and settled on a motto, "Cyfeillach trwy Grwydro" — Friendship Through Wandering.

The club has long fed players through to the professional ranks at the Scarlets. More recently the honours have come thick and fast: the WRU Division 1 Cup in 2024, won 17–5 over Glynneath RFC in the final at the Principality Stadium, followed by the Division 1 West league title the same year. The following season brought the WRU Championship Cup, with a fightback win over Tondu RFC, and then the Championship West title. That run was clouded when Caine Rees-Jones, who had played in the 2024 final, was banned for three years after testing positive for exogenous testosterone.

Local needle is never far away. Games against Ammanford RFC carry the weight of an old rivalry, but it is the meetings with Llangennech RFC that draw the sharpest edge, billed simply as the Llangennech-Wanderers derby.

Wearing red shirts with maroon shorts and socks, the Wanderers still play out of Stradey Park Avenue, tucked beside the old Stradey Park ground the Scarlets once called home — a reminder, every match day, of the bigger stage the club has spent decades sending its players toward.
