Manly United

Lucas Neill went on to captain the Socceroos and to play for Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United, and the football that raised him was the football of Sydney's Northern Beaches — a stretch of suburb that had been sending representative sides into New South Wales competition since 1960, when Manly Warringah first entered.

The name on the shirt today is younger than the football. In 2004 Football NSW ruled that federation clubs had to stand as separate incorporated bodies, so the representative branch was cut loose, restructured and renamed Manly United. In more than two decades since, the club has never been relegated.

Its best season came in 2017, when the NPL NSW Club Championship went to Cromer Park and Manly became the first club in Football NSW to take both the men's and women's championships in the same year. The Premiership had come the season before; the Waratah Cup in 2011.

There is no settled nickname. The crest carries an osprey, the predecessor answered to the Dolphins.

The fixture that fills it is against Northern Tigers, the Northern Beaches derby.

The men's side reached the NPL NSW Grand Final in 2022 and lost it.
