NEKA

Lajos Mocsai built NEKA in 2013 as a state-funded academy, a place designed to grow players for the national team rather than to chase trophies for itself. That purpose has shaped everything since: the club sits in Balatonboglár, but its senior men's side now plays its NB I fixtures across the lake in Siófok, at the Kiss Szilárd Sportcsarnok, which holds 1,400 for handball.

The team reached the top flight for the first time in 2022/2023 and finished eighth on debut. Relegation followed a year later, but that same season brought the club's one real mark on a trophy: third place in the Magyar Kupa, sealed with a 32–27 win over Dabas KC in the bronze match. For a club built to produce players rather than to win things, it stood out as a first.

NEKA also carries a role it did not ask for. When Siófok KC lost its licence in 2023 over financial trouble, NEKA's women's team took its place in the NB I.
