Nürnberg U19

The A-Juniors title of 1974 came from a final settled by a single goal against 1. FC Köln, and it remains the only German youth championship the Nuremberg academy has taken. The cup years arrived much later and in a cluster: the DFB-Pokal der Junioren in 1987 and 1988 , both finals against Borussia Mönchengladbach, then a third in 1993 at the expense of FC Schalke 04. Nothing of that order has followed.

What the academy has produced instead is players. Ilkay Gündoğan came through here before the moves that made his name; Stefan Kießling and Marius Wolf did too.

The fixture that colours the season is the Frankenderby against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

Home is the Sportpark Valznerweiher, where the U19s use the outer pitches — Platz 5, or the Max-Morlock-Platz, which holds 3,000 . It is a working ground rather than a stadium: no stands to speak of on most sides.
