Philadelphia Union sit in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, with the Supporters' Shield in 2020, then again in 2025, bracketing a run to the MLS Cup final in 2022. Subaru Park, the team's home ground since it opened in 2010, has watched a club turn into one of the league's steadiest sides.

The Union were formed in 2008, the sixteenth franchise admitted to MLS, and took nearly two years to play their first match — a March 2010 fixture against Seattle Sounders in which Sébastien Le Toux scored the club's first-ever goal. The wait mattered less than what followed: a habit of finding players in-house rather than buying them. Brenden Aaronson came through the academy before moving on to Europe, and Daniel Gazdag, once he arrived, went on to become the club's all-time leading scorer.

Andre Blake has been the constant at the other end, a goalkeeper good enough to be named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2016 and to stay a fixture in the squad well beyond it. Alejandro Bedoya wears the captain's armband, and the games that mean the most still tend to be against New York Red Bulls, whose fixture with Philadelphia carries the tag I-95 Derby, named for the interstate that connects the two cities.

Trophies have come harder than league form suggests — three U.S. Open Cup final defeats, in 2014, 2015 and 2018, and the MLS Cup final loss in 2022 — which makes the two Supporters' Shields sit heavier for a club whose ownership, led by Jay Sugarman, brought in Kevin Durant as a minority investor in 2020. On matchdays, though, the story is still told at Subaru Park in Chester, 18,500 seats set against the Delaware River just south of the city the club takes its name from.
