Q2 Stadium sits north of the city, a purpose-built ground with a capacity of 20,738. Austin FC plays there because the club was designed around it from the start.

The franchise took shape in 2018, formally joined MLS on 15 January 2019, and did not play a competitive match until 2021. Precourt Sports Ventures, led by Anthony Precourt, owns the club; among the minority investors is Matthew McConaughey. Verde green and black are the colours, and the nickname, The Oaks.

On the touchline, Josh Wolff built the team from nothing between 2019 and 2024; what he left behind reached a final in the 2025 US Open Cup, a result that stands as the club's furthest run yet.

None of that has mattered more than the games against FC Dallas. The Texas Derby is young by MLS standards, but Austin has already made a habit of treating it as the fixture that counts, and Copa Tejas — won in 2022 and again in 2023 — has become the early measure of a rivalry that also runs through Houston Dynamo.
