Dallas secured a 2:1 victory over Austin at Q2 Stadium on Sunday evening, moving further clear in the MLS Regular Season standings. The result leaves the visitors fifth in the table with 34 points, while Austin slip to 14th on 24 points after 22 matches played on both sides.
Austin dominated possession at 65 per cent but struggled to break through until the closing stages. Dallas, operating with less than a third of the ball, relied on efficiency and clinical finishing. By then the visitors had already shown they could punish Austin when chances arose.
The breakthrough came just before half-time when L. Abubakar found the net in the 45th minute plus two. Torres equalised for the hosts in the 57th, but P. Musa restored Dallas's lead with a third-period strike in the 73rd. The visitors carried the side through periods of sustained pressure.
Austin made several changes to try and shift momentum. I. Sanchez and J. Rosales came on together at the interval, followed by J. Gallagher and C. Ramirez in the 63rd. S. Moreno replaced a Dallas player in the 70th, while Guilherme Biro appeared twice on the bench before entering in the 83rd.
The statistics tell a story of wasted opportunity. Austin registered 114 attacks and created only one big chance, recording 0.62 expected goals against six shots on target. Dallas managed just 71 attacks yet produced 1.49 expected goals from six shots on target and two big chances. The hosts were punished from their limited moments.
Discipline was tight throughout. Austin collected three yellow cards, Dallas four. M. Uzuni's booking arrived late in stoppage time, while Ramiro, M. Djordjevic, B. Kamungo, J. Valiente, O. Svatok and O. Urhoghide all received cautions between the 33rd and 83rd minutes.
The result extends Dallas's recent positive trajectory despite a heavy defeat to Toluca on Thursday. Austin's run of three consecutive wins has ended, leaving them nine points behind the visitors in the standings. The gap widens as the season enters its final stretch.
