Two clubs share the same 60,000-seat ground in Dar es Salaam. The rivalry is a matter of a few kilometres rather than history.
Simba did not start under that name. The club was founded in 1936 as Eagles, then played for years as Sunderland — the Dar es Salaam League titles of 1944 and 1946 sit in the honours list under that borrowed English name. Only in 1971 did it become Simba Sports Club, Swahili for lion.
The league titles arrived in clusters, which tells you more than the total of 22. Five in a row between 1976 and 1980, four from 2001 to 2004 — and then the run that began in 2017–18 and did not stop until 2020–21.
The home kit is red throughout, shirt, shorts and socks, and the club's own slogan asks for nothing more than that: wear the red.
