Skuru IK grew out of that ground, a club founded in October 1922 that eventually built a women's handball section strong enough to carry the Skuru name into the country's top flight.

Women's handball at Skuru took a while to settle. It began in the early 1950s, stopped by the end of the decade, and only came back for good in 1964, once Nacka got an indoor hall to play in. From that restart, "de gröna" — the greens, for the club's green and white colours — grew into one of the most successful women's sides in Sweden, winning the Swedish Championship four times: in 2001 against IK Sävehof, in 2004 against Team Eslöv, in 2005 against Skövde HF, and in 2021 against H65 Höör. The Swedish Cup followed in the 2021/22 season, with Skara HF beaten in the final.

Skuru has never reached a European final.

Anna Ljungdahl Rapp is the best player Skuru has produced.
