Sporting San Jose

Puente de Piedra sits in the canton of Grecia, in Alajuela province, and it has only been Sporting's home since the 2025/26 season, rebuilt to hold 1,000 supporters. Before the move, the club played across the country in San José, at the Ernesto Rohrmoser stadium — the city where it had been formed.

The club was founded on 24 June 2016, in the San José district of Pavas. It was barely three years old when it rebuilt itself from the badge down: the name Sporting Football Club was formally registered in June 2019, and that September the founding dark blue and gold gave way to black and white, a tribute to La Libertad, a San José club that had already folded. The switch left Sporting with two nicknames — Los Albinegros for the new strip, Los Libertos for the club it was honouring.

The same year brought the first silverware, the 2019 Apertura title in the Segunda División. Sporting won the promotion playoff a year later and reached the Primera División for the first time, not yet five years after it was founded. It has not added a national title since.

It now plays out of Grecia, in a stadium a third the size of the one it left behind, still short of that first trophy at the level it fought to reach.
