Stavropol

The name on the shirt says everything about how this club was built: in 1992 Viktor Lavrov and Arkady Khalyavsky called their new team Viktor, a deliberate misspelling of victoria, changed to the masculine ending because the side was for men. Before that there had been a student team, Burevestnik, but Lavrov's version is the one that stuck, and it kept his name attached long after.

The club itself changed identity several times without ever losing the core of it: Viktor became Viktor-SKA in 1998, then Dinamo-Viktor from 2007, before reverting to plain Viktor in 2019. What has not changed is the size of the home ground. Vostok Arena in Stavropol holds 860 people.

For years the club built a reputation as nearly-men, taking silver in 2019/2020 and bronze the following season without a national trophy to show for it. That changed in 2024, when Viktor beat CSKA Moskva in the Final Four to win the Russian Cup — the club's first title at that level. Anton Zabolotsky, captain since 2002, was still leading the side when it finally happened.

The Southern Derby against SKIF Krasnodar remains the fixture that matters most locally, but nationally it is CSKA and Chekhovskiye Medvedi that Viktor measures itself against.
