Uruguay Montevideo spent the 2025–2026 campaign grinding through the Segunda División Profesional, against opponents like Miramar Misiones and Cerrito, still chasing a first promotion to the Primera División it has never reached in 29 seasons at the second level.

The club, founded on 5 January 1921 in the Pueblo Victoria district, took its name from two vessels of the Uruguayan navy, the cruiser Uruguay and the frigate Montevideo. It plays at Estadio Parque ANCAP, land the state oil company Ancap handed the club in 1976 under a 100-year agreement, after years shuttling between the La Arenera ground and Parque Troppiano.

The 2000s tested the arrangement. In 2007 the club was disqualified from the professional second division and dropped to amateur football for the 2008–09 seasons. It returned to the professional ranks in 2020 by winning a promotion play-off, and it has stayed there since. In between, in the 1990s, it played for a stretch as Mita Uruguay Montevideo under a sponsorship deal with the Japanese copier manufacturer Mita.

La Celestina, as it is known locally, carries celeste and black into a division it has occupied longer than anyone else, still with the same target in front of it.
