Zafeirakis

In the 2024-2025 season Zafeirakis gave that rivalry fresh weight by reaching the Greek Cup Final Four for the first time in the club's history, beating ASE Douka 27-26 in the quarter-finals before running into AEK, who put 40 past them in the semi. No Greek championship or cup sits in the club's cabinet.

Handball arrived at the multi-sport society eight years after its 1974 founding, when supervisor Danis Xanthopoulos and coach Stratos Vafeas set up the men's section in 1978 and took it into the Hellenic Handball Federation the following year. Promotion from the A2 National Championship in 2019-2020 put the men's team back in the top-flight Handball Premier, and the 2026-2027 season marks their eighth straight year there. The women's side has a longer and quieter record behind it, five Central Macedonia titles between 1987 and 2000 and a regional championship in 2004, before fading and then returning to competition, in the A2 National Championship, only for 2026-2027.

Home games are played in front of a crowd capped at 1,000, small enough that the nickname "The Oranges" carries through the hall rather than getting lost in it. The 2026-2027 squad brought in Egyptians Youssef Yassin and Kareem Mohamed, part of a rebuild under head coach Konstantinos Deligiannis and new president Konstantinos Ioannou, who took over from Despina Ralli. But the name still tied to Zafeirakis's best season is Giorgos Theodoropoulos, top scorer as the team pushed further than it ever had before.
