Spartak Stadium
Tambov, Russia
Formerly: Revtrud
Tambov's Spartak Stadium has spent most of its life as a works ground. It opened in 1951 and belonged for years to the Revtrud factory, carrying that name on the gate until the club's finances forced a retreat back to Spartak after the Soviet collapse.
What sets it apart is the 2017–2019 rebuild, triggered by a single event: Tambov's promotion to the Russian Premier League. The work came in stages rather than as one project. First, floodlights — four 30-metre masts delivering 1,200 lux, a level built to Champions League specification. Then the pitch itself was stripped out entirely: springs under the field forced crews to remove roughly 60cm of soil before laying new turf with heating, automatic irrigation and drainage. Goals, fencing and the substitutes' benches were replaced along the way.
The third phase never happened. Plans to expand the stands to 15,000 seats failed the state safety review required for top-flight grounds, and funding dried up soon after — the club itself closed down not long after. So the stadium sits today at 4,990 capacity.
