Natalya Karaseva took over as head coach in 2024, and the season under her produced the club's lowest finish in its history — eleventh place in the Superleague.

The team played its first match on 21 April 1996 under the name Marseille, then became VDV, then Ryazan-TNK, before settling on Ryazan-VDV in 2005. VDV stands for Russia's Airborne Forces, based in the city, and the unofficial nickname, The Paratroopers, carries the same reference. Home games are played at the Spartak stadium, which holds 6,000, and the team wears sky blue with white.

Four Russian championships arrived in 1999, 2000, 2013 and 2018. The Russian Cup was won twice, in 1998 and 2014, and lost in six further finals. Viktor Isaykin, in charge for most of the years from 1996 to 2001, coached the club to those first titles. Konstantin Klimashin, in charge from 2007 to 2014 and again from 2016 to 2020, added the 2013 championship and took the team into European competition.

Financial problems forced the club's withdrawal from the championship in 2004, and it came close to disappearing again in October 2020 — saved only after the regional governor met the head of the Russian Football Union the following month. A last-place finish in the Superleague in 2022 preceded a merger with FC Ryazan and its youth academy in August 2023.

Ksenia Tsybutovich played for the club from 2012 to 2016 while captaining the Russia national team, and went on to captain Zenit. Elena Morozova, twice named Russia's best footballer, captained the national side during her 2018 season in Ryazan, the year Elena Danilova and Anna Belomyttseva both made the championship's symbolic team. Goalkeeper Maria Svidunovich, also capped by Russia, still plays for the side.
