South Georgia Tormenta FC is the name that sits on Minnesota Aurora's ledger from its very first season, having beaten them 2-1 in overtime in the 2022 USL W League Championship Game. It is the one defeat in an inaugural campaign that otherwise ran to a 9-0-1 record.
A group of local Minnesotans put the club together in 2021, aiming at something the Twin Cities did not already have. That 2022 debut set the tone. Eagan's TCO Stadium, the Minnesota Vikings' training facility, sold out its 6,500 capacity three times that season, and the club led the league in attendance with more than 5,000 fans a game on average.
The Heartland Division has since become a formality. Minnesota Aurora has won it four years running, from 2022 through 2025, and took the Central Conference title in both 2024 and 2025, reaching the USL-W semifinals the first of those years and the conference final the second. Nicole Lukic has been in charge throughout as Sporting Director and Head Coach, and it was on the back of two unbeaten regular seasons and two division championships that the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal named her to its 40 Under 40 list in 2024.
The colours draw on the Northern Lights: a dark blue home shirt shading into teal, with white stars and red pinstripes on the sleeves. It is a kit built for a club still writing its early chapters rather than looking back on old ones.
