To be fair, the visitors had little to offer in terms of structure, and the result reflected a team that simply could not cope with the tempo.
The opening goal arrived early enough to set the tone, an own goal by T. Seferovic on the second minute that gave Winterthur a surprise advantage. S. Ottiger doubled the lead on nine, and A. Marchesano added a penalty on eighteen after the visitors had already begun to unravel. By then, Wil were chasing the game in all but name, and the visitors' midfield was being carved open at will.
Winterthur added two more goals in the second half. E. Kehrer struck on forty-nine, and B. Beyer made it five on eighty-four. The match had already been decided in terms of outcome, but N. Rupp's red card on fifty-nine changed the complexion of the remainder. The visitors had nothing to do all evening after that, and their shape collapsed further.

Wil managed more interceptions, nineteen to twelve, but that was damage limitation rather than control.
