About the player
He won the Paraguayan Primera División with Cerro Porteño in 2017, 2020 and 2021, and in 2020 was named the People's Player by the Paraguayan Football Association.
In August 2021 he moved to Grêmio in Brazil. He won the Campeonato Gaúcho in three straight years, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and adding the Recopa Gaúcha in 2023. That same year brought individual recognition too: Villasanti was named Bola de Prata as the best midfielder in the Brasileirão, was picked for the Copa do Brasil Team of the Tournament, and was voted Paraguay's Footballer of the Year.
He was left out of the squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but featured for Paraguay at the Copa América in 2021 and 2024, and has come through qualifying for both the 2022 and 2026 World Cups, having now been named in the squad for the 2026 tournament.
