About the player
Newton spent five years working through the ranks at Jacuipense before Botafogo moved to take control of his economic rights. The Salvador-born defensive midfielder had already tried Série D football with Bahia de Feira.
He returned to Rio de Janeiro and made 56 appearances for Botafogo's first team, adding a further goal to his tally. At 188 centimetres, right-footed, he wore the number 28 shirt throughout that spell before a transfer to São Paulo took him elsewhere in July 2026, where he was presented in the same shirt number.
The move away from Botafogo followed talks over a reduction in his value, with the exact terms of the deal not laid out publicly. Newton has yet to add a senior international appearance to his record.
