About the player
Right-back Samuel Xavier arrived at Fluminense on a free transfer after his contract at Ceará expired.
His path there was not straightforward. He started out at Paulista in Jundiaí, winning back-to-back editions of the Copa Paulista, then went through São Caetano before joining Ceará, where he took the Campeonato Cearense. A transfer to Sport Recife followed, and with that club he added the Campeonato Pernambucano and the Copa do Nordeste to his collection.
The more telling chapter came afterwards. Loaned back to Ceará, he helped the club avoid relegation, and Ceará moved to sign him permanently before the end of that year. He went on to win another Copa do Nordeste there before leaving for Fluminense on a free transfer.
He has not been capped by Brazil's senior national side.
