Batumi

Basketball took root in Adjara through a club built to compete rather than to develop slowly: Batumi , founded in 1998, started life as Basco Batumi. Between 1999 and 2002 the club took the Georgian Superliga four years running, then added a fifth title in 2004.

The mid-2000s brought financial trouble, and the club had to be reorganised around 2010 before it could compete at the top again. The Georgian Cup, won in 2003, did not return to Batumi until 2019; that second Cup arrived alongside a Supercup, the club's first since 2016, and marked the closest the rebuilt side had come to its old form. Collin Malcolm's run as the league's MVP in the 2019–20 season fell in that same window.

Blue and white carry the sea and the flag of Adjara, and the club plays in front of no more than 2,500 at the Batumi Sports Palace in a city better known nationally for its football arena. Batumi has never settled on a nickname of its own; the handball club up the road claims the Black Sea Boys tag, leaving the basketball side to define itself purely by results.
